Silhouette of a Power Pump Machine Discharging Sludge

The i-Flow Density Meter’s Futuristic Communication Protocol Doesn’t Forget Its Analogue Past

Process Flow Intelligence (PFI) have made some bold claims in recent months about the i-Flow Density Meter being a game-changing technology that can revolutionise the dredging and mining industries.

So, what makes us so confident about the i-Flow aside from its panoptic 3-in-1 functionality to be able to measure slurry density, slurry velocity, and slurry bed-height all in one fully automated self-calibrating system?

Part of the answer lies in the i-Flow’s updated communication protocol (DCP). The i-Flow’s DCP module can now deliver measurement values in a digital format via an ethernet cable, unlike its predecessor where measurement values were sent to the programmable logic controller (PLC) via an analogue 4-20mA. That said, we haven’t forgotten about the analogue format, nor have we left it behind. The i-Flow is still fully compatible with, and can support, the 4-20mA analogue protocol.

Combined with the a smaller and faster chip set, the i-Flow’s 3-in-1 functionality becomes both possible and practical through a digitised or analogue signal that makes data communication between the sensor flange and data acquisition unit much more robust and simple to install. Aligned with its all-round technological compatibility, the i-Flow’s flexibility allows for the sensor flange to be

installed horizontally, vertically, or at an incline.
